Gift of Memories
We would like to consider the gift of memories, and how we can use reminiscing to enhance our life.
How Can I Benefit from the Gift of Reminiscence?
There are several different ways that you can benefit from this gift. You can consider remembering your own life story, retelling someone else’s story (i.e. your children), or listening to another person’s story.
In order to tell your story or the story of another, you only need follow three simple steps:
Remember it
Record it (in writing or on audio/video tape)
Relate it to another person
If you are going to help another person in their reminiscing, these suggestions may prove helpful:
Consider looking at pictures, letters, other remembrances to stimulate the flow of memories;
Listen attentively and thoughtfully;
Offer encouragement and support to the person reminiscing;
Encourage the person to share not only experiences, but more importantly their feelings;
Assist in recording the reminiscing, so that it can be used in the future.
We pray the Lord richly blesses your reminiscing and you experience His peace and joy.
“Thanks for the Memories…”
This month our health ministry focuses on the healing power of memories. May your thanksgiving be blessed with remembrances of God’s mercy and faithfulness. “Blessings crown the head of the righteous…the memory of the righteous will be a blessing” (Proverbs 10:6-7).
