AIDS
We would like to share some thoughts with you on A.I.D.S. This deadly disease continues to afflict millions of people throughout the world. In spite of this, we are strengthened with these words from Isaiah, “Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows…and by His wounds we are healed (Isaiah 53:4-5). In life and death, Jesus is our Healer!
What is A.I.D.S.?
A.I.D.S. refers to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. The virus, HIV. (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) causes a failure of the body’s immune system. This leaves a person susceptible to many kinds of infections which can be fatal. There is no known cure for A.I.D.S.
How Can I Get A.I.D.S.?
Scientist have discovered the ways in which A.I.D.S. is contracted. In general, A.I.D.S. is not spread through casual contact; it is spread only through sexual contact involving the exchange of body fluids, sharing intravenous drug needles, receiving blood transfusions of infected blood, and contact between a pregnant woman and her pre-born child. Currently, it is not believed that A.I.D.S. is spread through insect bites.
How Can I Protect Myself from A.I.D.S.?
The spread of A.I.D.S. can be prevented. The following behaviors can offer you protection from this deadly disease.
Limit sexual contact (involving the exchange of body fluids) to marriage [there is really no such thing as safe sex; all sexual behavior has consequences]
Never share needles or syringes
Avoid contact with other people’s blood
